1. Protein quality — what DIAAS says
DIAAS (Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score) is the current scientific metric for evaluating protein quality — it replaces the now outdated PDCAAS. A value of 1.0 means a complete amino acid profile and ideal absorption.

Compared satiety of a drink with 25g protein vs. solid food with 25g protein. Solid food produced 35–40% greater satiety until the next meal.[1]
The mechanisms behind this difference are well established:
Stimulates mechanoreceptors in the mouth and jaw, sending satiety signals to the brain even before food is digested.
Fiber, water, and food structure act as "volume" in the stomach — signaling satiety for a longer period.
Solids remain in the stomach for 60–90 min; liquids for 30–45 min. More time = more sustained satiety.
Solid foods stimulate CCK, GLP-1, and PYY more significantly — the hormones that signal satiety to the brain.
3. Compliance — the critical factor
Compared adherence to "whey shakes" vs. "high protein food" for 6 months. Result: 80–85% of people maintained protein foods; only 45–55% maintained daily shakes.[2] Why? Shakes are "extras" that require deliberate preparation; foods are part of existing meals.
